Stathis Tavlaridis was the first Greek player to win the Premier League with Arsenal without a single appearance.

Konstantinos “Kostas” Tsimikas made history becoming the first ever actively involved Greek player to win the Premier League (2024-25). This marked a treble for the Greek international as he had previously won the FA Cup (2021-22), EFL Cup (2021-22, 2023-24). The 28-year-old left fullback also came close to winning the UEFA Champions League for the club in the 2021-22 season but fell short against Real Madrid.

The victory meant that Liverpool equalled Manchester United‘s tally of 20 league title victories in this elite English tournament. Liverpool’s title victory was ensured after the club went on a rampage against Tottenham. The Merseyside-based club not only came back after goal down but turned things around in style. They ultimately won the game 5-1.

Is Tsimikas really the first Greek player to win the Premier League?

Diving back into Premier League archives, we will find that Tsimikas isn’t the first Greek to win the Premier League title. It was in fact Stathis Tavlaridis who was the first person to do so in 2004. Unfortunately for Tavlaridis, he did not make a single appearance for his club in the competition.

Tsimikas did, which makes him an active player in the competition. He made 16 appearances for the club and had a successful tackle rate of 63%. Higher than his fellow defender and Liverpool captain, Virgin van Dijk himself. Unlike Van Dijk however, the left back did not score a goal but did make an assist.

He delivered a pinpoint cross to Diogo Jota ,who finished it off with a goal against Nottingham Forest. Since his arrival at the club from Olympiacos, the Thessaloniki-born player has played on and off for Liverpool. Despite losing his place to Andrew Robertson, his involvement in the games cannot be denied.
