The Toffees decided to shift from Goodison Park to Hill Dickinson Stadium in the new season.
History was made at Everton’s new home ground after Iliman Ndiaye became the first player to score a goal at the club’s new arena, Hill Dickinson Stadium, against Brighton & Hove Albion. Jack Grealish helped set up Ndiaye, who scored in the 23rd minute.
Ndiaye also scored Everton’s last goal at Goodison Park in May, hitting a brace against Southampton.
Grealish, who joined on loan from Manchester City and is hoping to play frequently again, found the assist to be a noteworthy occasion as well.
Grealish was playing for Everton for the second time after coming on as a substitute against Leeds United on Monday.
David Moyes feels “privileged”
David Moyes, the manager of the Toffees, said before the match that he felt “privileged” to be leading the team in their first match at their new stadium.
Moyes told Sky Sports: “It’s remarkable. A day in history. Thankfully we’ve got a fantastic new stadium, we now must get a team to match it. I’m hugely privileged.
“For me to be back as a manager here is a great thrill for me. I’m the fortunate one who gets to lead the team out here.”
After occupying Goodison Park since 1892, Everton have now relocated to their new stadium, which can accommodate 52,769 people. The Everton women’s team will continue to play at Goodison Park.
