Who is Manchester United’s new target Geovany Quenda?

Born in Guinea-Bissau, Quenda spent his early years in Portugal, where he advanced through Benfica’s junior academy until joining Sporting CP in 2021. As he advanced through the Lisbon club’s development ranks, the winger gained a stellar reputation.

Last February, at the age of 16, he became the youngest player to ever play for their reserve side. Quenda had been a part of Amorim’s first-team training the previous season, following which he has so far had a fantastic 2024–2025 season.

After making his professional debut in August, the Portuguese youth international became the club’s youngest-ever scorer. Despite being a right-winger by nature, Quenda has demonstrated remarkable adaptability by playing as a right-wing back in Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 system.

Amorim had been reluctant to alter a winning formula while letting Quenda get first-team experience because Sporting’s front three—Peter Gonçalves, Viktor Gyokeres, and Trincão—had been playing sensationally.

Roberto Martinez, the manager of Portugal, has already taken notice of his abilities and promise. He was selected for the senior team for the recent doubleheader against Scotland and Croatia. However, he did not make his debut.

He has been a vital part of Sporting’s offensive play because of his ability to create chances from wide areas. Although he might use some work on his poise and passing accuracy in the latter third, he makes mature decisions despite his age.
