The Netherlands national football team locked horns with the Sweden national football team for their second fixture of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The clash took place at the Houston Stadium.

Ronald Koeman’s men started off the game well. With their early pressure, they were able to find the net in under six minutes. Brian Brobbey was the one to do so. In under 20 minutes, he completed his brace and doubled the lead for the Netherlands national football team.

After the hydration break, the Sweden national football team showed some signs of fight. They failed to score a goal despite two big chances. Cody Gakpo came up with a brace of his own early in the second half. The Swedish defence was turned to dust after a top performance by the Dutch.

Brian Brobbey was born on February 1, 2002, in Amsterdam. He is of Ghanaian descent and football runs in the family. Several of his brothers are also pursuing professional careers in the sport. Brian stood out because of his athleticism and goal-scoring capabilities.

He started his youth career for AFC Club and then went on to join the Ajax academy in 2010. Brian Brobbey built his reputation as a prolific scorer in the youth system of Ajax. With his strength and speed, he dominated opponents. Many people compared his playing style to Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku.

In 2019, he helped the Netherlands to lift the UEFA European Under-17 Championship. His senior breakthrough for Ajax came in October 2020 and he also scored a goal on his debut for the club. During 2021, he moved to the Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, but soon he came back to Ajax and re-established himself from 2022 to 2025.

He moved to the English Premier League in 2025 after joining Sunderland. His move to England also helped him return to the Netherlands national football team. He is surely going to play an important role in the post-Memphis Depay era.
