Uzbekistan are currently facing DR Congo in their last group stage game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the Atlanta Stadium in Georgia, the United States. The match started with high pressing, as the White Wolves would have taken the lead in the second minute if they hadn’t been caught in the offside trap.

Despite not being able to score in the second minute, the Asian side made a quick return and scored a few minutes later. In the 10th minute, Uzbekistan captain Eldor Shomurodov found the back of the net, courtesy of an assist by Akmal Mozgovoy.

Eldor Shomurodov was born on June 29, 1995, in Jarqoʻrgʻon, Uzbekistan. He was born into a family of footballers, as his uncles, Ilkhom and Otabek Shomurodov, also represented Uzbekistan at the international level.

Meanwhile, he began his football career in the youth academy of FC Mash’al Mubarek at age 6. In 2015, he joined Bunyodkor before spending three years at Rostov between 2017 and 2020. Later, Eldor Shomurodov played for Serie A side Genoa in the 2020-21 season before joining Roma.

Shomurodov joined Roma in 2021. However, since then, he has been sent on multiple loan deals. He has played for Spezia Calcio, Cagliari, and Başakşehir on loan. The 30-year-old has made 85 appearances for Roma across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing 13 assists.

He’s still part of the Serie A side; however, he will join Turkish side Basaksehir later this year. For Basaksehir, Eldor Shomurodov has been a successful frontman. Shomurodov has made 44 appearances for the Turkish side, scoring 26 goals and providing 6 assists.

Playing for the White Wolves, Shomurodov has earned 95 caps, in which he has scored 45 goals. He made his debut for the national team in 2015 at the age of 20.
