Who is Ismael Saibari? Morocco's goalscorer vs Brazil in FIFA World Cup 2026

The Morocco national football team battled it out against the Brazil national football team in their opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the New York-New Jersey Stadium.

Both of the nations started with high pressing and the Carlo Ancelotti-led side lacked rhythm for the initial moments of the game. Mohamed Ouahbi’s men used that to their advantage and were the ones to break the deadlock early in the match.

It was Ismael Saibari who scored the first goal of the match and the Morocco national football team at the FIFA World Cup 2026. This goal put Brazil under a lot of pressure, but A Selecao found their way back after Vinicius Junior scored an equaliser in the 32nd minute. It was a sensational goal by Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti’s men are back in the game and also have a chance to win it now.

Ismael Saibari was born to Moroccan parents on 28 January 2001 in Terrassa, Spain. From the start, he maintained strong ties with his family’s homeland and went on to join the Moroccan national football team.

He found his way in football at a very young age. Saibari featured for Spanish clubs like CF Damm, where he spent most of his youth years. He later went on to join PSV Eindhoven’s academy in 2020. With his technical ability and versatility in the final third, Saibari impressed officials around him and found his way to PSV’s senior side in 2022.

He is now set to join Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window of 2026 for a reported €45m fixed fee plus add-ons to bring the final package over €50m.

Ismael Saibari made his debut for the Atlas Lions in 2023. He was also part of his national team during the 2024 Summer Olympics, where he helped his side secure a Bronze medal in men’s football.

Saibari also played an important role for Morocco during their historic semi-final run of the FIFA World Cup 2022. Since then, he has played a crucial role in the first team.
