Paraguay took on Germany in their Round of 32 clash in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on June 29. The South American side took a shock lead in the 42nd minute, courtesy of a goal from Julio Enciso.
Die Mannschaft started the match well and continued to put pressure on Orlando Gill’s goal. However, La Albirroja held firm and tried to hit their opponents on the break, which bore fruit just before half-time.
The goal came from a set-piece situation, which Germany failed to clear properly. Juan Jose Caceres regained possession with a brilliant sliding tackle before finding Miguel Almiron. The Atlanta United attacker teed up Matias Galarza, who floated in a terrific ball into the box. Enciso got a header that beat Manuel Neuer and found the back of the net.

Born in Caaguazu, Enciso began his career after joining Club Libertad at the age of 12. He made his senior debut at the age of 15, becoming the youngest player to play for the club. After making 55 appearances and scoring 18 goals across three seasons, he was signed by Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion for 11.6 million euros.
He registered an assist on his Seagulls debut in the EFL Cup before appearing in the league in October. He became a key part of the mid-table side, but his progress was cut short by a serious knee injury towards the end of the 2023-24 season.
After failing to regain his spot in the team, he joined Ipswich Town on loan, making 13 appearances in six months. The following season, he departed for French club Strasbourg in a deal worth 9.5 million euros.
In his debut season with the Blue and Whites, he made 42 appearances across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and registering nine assists.
Enciso made his senior debut with La Albirroja in 2021 and has earned 36 caps in total. He has scored five goals and registered seven assists for the national team.
