The youngster became well-known at the PSG academy.

According to a report by Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City are set to sign Mahamadou Sangaré (18), a very talented youngster from Paris Saint-Germain, on a free transfer.

With an incredible eight goals in just six games and two assists during that time, Sangaré was a key player in PSG’s UEFA Youth League campaign during 2024-25 season.

The French junior player, though, doesn’t seem to want to stay and wait for first-team opportunities at the Parc des Princes.

Who is Mahamadou Sangare?

  • Age: 18
  • Date of birth: March 6, 2007
  • Position: Centre-Forward
  • Current club: Paris Saint-Germain (free agent)
  • Nationality: French

Mahamadou Sangare has a very inspiring story. In order to follow his ambition of being a football player, the ravenous striker relocated from Mali to Paris, but his next stop is expected to be the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England.

Mahamadou Sangare was raised in Bamako, the capital of Mali, but was born in Dionkoulane, in the country’s north. From a young age, he started playing football on sandy grounds with his neighbourhood pals.

Instead of playing football, his father preferred his son to study the Koran because he detested the game. However, he quickly realised that Mahamadou’s greatest passion was football, and he concluded that sending him to France, a country teeming with young talent, would be his best chance of becoming a professional.

Mahamadou Sangare was given a tryout with Racing Colombes 92 in the capital after the father and son relocated to Cergy, which is located north of Paris. Sangare was included in the starting lineup for a friendly match in Lille the day after his trial, and he scored in the first minute.

Despite just being 15, Sangare joined Montrouge, another Paris club, in 2022 and played for their under-17 team. With 25 goals and five assists in just 20 games, he was incredibly prolific. He was the division’s best scorer.

He finally decided on PSG, where he began with the under-19 team and signed a youth contract in the summer of 2023. Sangare finished the season with 32 goals, demonstrating that he was just as deadly despite being two years older than his age group.

Despite never being called up to a matchday squad, Mahamadou Sangare started working with PSG’s first team squad in December of last year.

However, he was in high demand due to his goal-scoring prowess in the Youth League, and it was reported last month that he had chosen not to extend his contract with PSG in order to consider his alternatives from other teams. He was said to have accepted an offer from Manchester City at the end of April.

Sangare’s playing style

Sangare is incredibly fast and has a unique ability to handle the ball as he races down the field in the direction of the goal.

He has a talent for getting to the right spot at the right time and sniffing out a goal with his deadly left foot, in addition to his passion for racing at opponents and frightening them. His ability to score both elegant and gritty goals explains why he is so prolific.

“He’s a pure centre forward, a real scoring machine,” said Anthony Vivien, chairman of Les Titis de PSG, the club’s association of young players.

“Last year alone, he scored 32 goals in 35 games. He’s a rather quiet kid, who talks more when scoring goals than when expressing himself through words. He knows how to get lost in opposing defences, that’s his strength. He has a very good reading of the game from deep.”
