Maycon Cardozo’s debut for Bayern Munich’s first team against Borussia Mönchengladbach marked a new checkpoint. The protracted journey has now taken the 17-year-old from Brazil to Germany following his performance for the youth side in Thailand.
Cardozo grinned broadly in the mixed zone and stated, “Everyone congratulated me on my debut when I came into the changing room after the game.”
After playing for 29 minutes and making 13 passes, and winning three of four duels on his Bundesliga debut, the teenager declared, “I’m really happy and proud.”

The forward was born in São Paulo, Brazil, but spent the majority of his early years in Thailand, where his father played professional football. In an attempt to follow in his footsteps, young Maycon Cardozo quickly made his way to the STB Sports Thai Bavaria Academy, which is closely associated with Bayern.
Maycon Cardozo’s selection for Bayern’s Global Academy, which gathers together young players from all over the world to train with the team for a year, was a pivotal step in his growth. At the age of just 15, his endeavours there won him a spot in the FC Bayern World Squad, the club’s premier youth program for international U19 players.
“Maycon has learned great technique, can dribble, is nimble, quick, and can shoot with both feet,” stated Roy Makaay, the World Squad’s coach in charge and a former striker for Bayern.
Maycon Cardozo secured a contract with Germany’s record champions in 2024 after being offered a trial with Bayern’s U17 team on Makaay’s advice.
The Brazilian advanced to the U19s in the summer of 2025 despite a shoulder ailment impeding his progress. By the end of the year, he was consistently participating in senior team training sessions. He had his first opportunity to play on the pitch with them in a friendly match against Red Bull Salzburg in January.

Yesterday, he played in the second half of a 4-1 victory over Gladbach, replacing Luis Díaz on the left wing for his initial experience of competitive action at the highest level.
Cardozo’s inclusion also speaks volumes about Bayern’s present strategy, even though it was clearly a significant moment for him.
The 17-year-old is now the eighth teenager Vincent Kompany has put in the senior squad in the Bundesliga in 2025–2026, more than Bayern have ever done in a single season.
