Who is Robinho Jr? New Santos wonderkid making headlines alongside Neymar in Brazil

Robinho Jr made his Santos debut in the last game against Flamengo.

Robinho Jr (Robson Junior) is the son of one of the prominent former football stars Robinho, who is currently serving a nine-year prison sentence for rape he committed during his time in Italy.

Meanwhile, his son was pictured with another great of the game, Neymar, demonstrating his skills during the Santos practice session.

Robinho Junior is currently the teammate of Neymar, as both play for the Brazilian club Santos. The forward played in their thrilling 1-0 victory against Flamengo in the Serie A, with Neymar scoring the winning goal.

Ever since his video with Neymar has been circulating on social media, fans have been quick to recognise the teenager. Looking at the player, Robinho Junior started his football journey at a very young age and wanted to follow in the footsteps of his father in becoming a professional football star.

Who is Robinho Junior?

Junior currently plays for the senior Santos team. But how did he get there? Born on 17 December 2007, he began his football career at the club’s academy in May 2022, aged 14. He later signed a youth contract with the team in June.

His performances promptly grabbed the attention of other senior staff and coaches from the academy, which resulted in his promotion to the under-17 squad for the 2023 season. However, he had to wait for his chance as he only appeared for the team the following year.

His talent was visible on the pitch. Before any other club could swoop in, the Brazilian team tied down the forward with a new deal with a release clause of â‚Ź50 million on 9 August 2024.

Quick promotions from junior to senior squads

Robinho Junior remained true to this form for the junior team and led the club’s U-17 to the Campeonato Paulista Sub-17 trophy, where he was the top scorer alongside Lucca Amaro. His exploits were once again rewarded with a promotion to the U-20 team. There, he competed in the Copa SĂŁo Paulo de Futebol JĂșnior

He was developing quickly into a complete player, and it appeared he was ready to play for the senior team. On 19 February 2025, he was registered in the first-team squad for the 2025 Campeonato Paulista. After being registered, on 9 July, he was handed the shirt No.7, which his father wore during his time at the club.

Robinho Junior earned his unofficial debut for the senior team on 10 July 2025, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 3–1 friendly win over Desportiva FerroviĂĄria. He provided an assist to Diego Pituca’s goal. He is mainly utilised as a substitute as he is still in his development phase.

Robinho Junior’s playing style

Robinho Jr. is a fast, creative, agile, and technically talented player who is mostly recognised for his flair, ball control, attacking instinct, and dribbling abilities. He is also noted for his use of feints and trickery, including the flip flap and the step over, which he makes look silky smooth with his quick feet.

Due to his propensity to contribute to the development of his teams’ attack and his ability to both score and create goals, he has also occasionally been employed as an attacking midfielder, a supporting forward, and a primary striker.
