Who will Germany face in FIFA World Cup 2026 group stage?

Germany have learnt their group stage opponents.
As they attempted to qualify out of the group stage for the first time since winning it in 2014, Germany have now learned who they would face at this summer’s World Cup.
Curaçao, who are new to the event, will be Julian Nagelsmann’s team’s first opponent. With three victories and three draws in the last round, the CONCACAF squad defeated Jamaica to earn an automatic spot in the World Cup, capping an undefeated qualifying campaign. It’ll be the first game for Nagelsmann versus the smallest nation to qualify for the World Cup.
The second group stage encounter will see Nagelsmann’s side face off against Côte d’Ivoire. Both groups will play in a competitive game for the first time.

How Germany progressed to the competition
Since winning the 2014 World Cup, Germany have fallen short in following World Cups and continued to perform poorly. However, ever since the arrival of Julian Nagelsmann, the national team has made some strides in the big competition.
The former Bayern coach has elevated the team’s performance and will be hoping to bring the fifth trophy back to Germany next year.

Germany’s record during qualification

Under Julian Nagelsmann, DFB-Elf were successful in reaching the World Cup directly despite the defeat in the qualifiers. The Germans played six games, winning five games and suffering a defeat in the match. They topped the group with 15 points and directly secured their place in the competition.

Germany have won four FIFA World Cups (1954, 1974, 1990, and 2014), making it one of the most accomplished national teams in international events.
DFB-Elf have always been among the best teams in international soccer. Germany have participated in every World Cup since 1954, but despite finishing first in their group seven times in a row, they have not advanced past the group stage in the last two competitions.
The country has won the trophy four times, but it hasn’t done so since 2014. In the last two competitions, they were eliminated in the group stage.
DFB-Elf will want to return the trophy to Berlin at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, led by Bayern Munich sensation Jamal Musiala.
