Both nations are set for the first-ever competitive meeting.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is currently underway with its second round of group stage fixtures. Tournament favourites England are set to play in a heavyweight clash against Ghana in a Group L clash at the Boston Stadium in Massachusetts, USA.
England are arriving with huge expectations, with the nation playing under new manager Thomas Tuchel, featuring a star-studded squad. They need to overcome their poor performance in the 2022 campaign, suffering a quarter-final exit against France.
England played their opening fixture against Croatia, starting with a big clash. After an eventful first half saw both teams going back and forth, finishing in a 2-2 draw. England, however, had an excellent outing in the second half, ultimately winning 4-2. Captain Harry Kane spearheaded the victory with an excellent brace, with Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford scoring once each.
Ghana will target an improved outing from the 2022 edition, as the nation was eliminated at the top of the group. Ghana played their group stage opener against Panama, a side capable of causing massive upsets.
They secured a dramatic late victory, winning 1-0 thanks to a stoppage-time match-winner by Caleb Yirenkyi in the 95th minute. However, their performance was heavily criticized during the game, with Panama controlling the entire game.
This is set to be a memorable outing as both nations are set for their first-ever competitive outing, adding to the overall stakes of the match. Their only previous matchup was 15 years ago, ending in a 1-1 draw.
They are placed in Group L of the World Cup, competing alongside Croatia and Panama for a top-two spot to secure automatic qualification to the knockout stages. The victorious side will confirm their passage into the newly introduced Round of 32.
