Robert Lewandowski received an unexpected request from Barcelona during his first season at the club.

Lewandowski, 37, who played for Bayern Munich and spent eight dazzling years at the club, joined Barcelona in 2022.

But the Polish striker joined at a challenging moment for the Blaugrana, who were facing severe financial problems. Despite this, the striker scored 23 goals in 34 league games to help the Catalan powerhouses win LaLiga in his debut season.

However, Lewandowski’s biography, “Lewandowski: the real one,” which was recently released and ghostwritten by author Sebastian Staszewski, has revealed some shocking news.

In the final two games of the 2022–2023 season, Barcelona allegedly asked the centre-forward to stop scoring. According to the book, Lewandowski was invited to a meeting with several board members, including Joan Laporta, the president.

The former Borussia Dortmund player was then advised to wait until the end of the season to score another goal.

Why did Barcelone ask Robert Lewandowski to stop scoring?

The book states: :[Barcelona asked Lewandowski] Robert, we want you to stop scoring goals in the last games”.

“The player looked at him in amazement. Although the championship title was already decided, as was the award for the best scorer, in more than a decade playing at the highest level, no one had asked him to stop scoring a goal in his entire career.”

The LaLiga giants did this to avoid paying Bayern a £2.2 million incentive, which they would have to spend if Robert Lewandowski scored 25 league goals.

Robert Lewandowski won the Golden Boot title even after finishing the last two league games of the season without scoring and also won the LaLiga title.
