The 2026 FIFA World Cup has already made its mark, with some matchups producing memorable moments, like Cape Verde’s incredible performance, which will forever be etched in footballing history.
The tournament co-hosts, the USA, are currently facing Australia in a highly anticipated Group D fixture at the Seattle Stadium in Washington, USA.
Both nations are currently competing in their first-ever competitive meeting, adding to the historic context. The notable omission from the team squads was that of starman Christian Pulisic, who was not even named on the bench.
Reason behind Christian Pulisic’s omission

Manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that Christian Pulisic was completely ruled out of the heavyweight clash against Australia, leaving American fans in massive disappointment. The decision was finalized ahead of kickoff when the medical staff determined the star winger had gained sufficient match fitness to feature in the game.
Christian Pulisic originally suffered a calf injury after enduring a minor knock in the region during the final pre-World Cup training ahead of their opening fixture against Paraguay. Though he was cleared to feature in the opening fixture, he was brought down by the Paraguayan defender, whose challenge impacted the same region.
Despite playing through the pain until halftime, the injury worsened. Aimed to ensure the player’s long-term availability, Mauricio Pochettino substituted Pulisic at halftime to prevent a serious muscle tear injury, which could potentially rule him out of the entire tournament.
The USA’s staff has now confirmed that the player is being held out of today’s lineup to prevent further injuries, adhering the player to a personalized training program to fast-track his recovery time for their next fixture.
Christian Pulisic delivered an unbelievable performance against Paraguay despite only playing for 45 minutes, contributing to the scoresheet by assisting Weston McKennie’s 28th-minute goal while also playing a crucial role in the build-up for the other two goals, putting the USA in the primary position, as the side ultimately secured a 4-1 win.
