France are currently playing Norway in their last group-stage game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The game is being played at the Boston Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, with more than 50,000 fans in attendance.
Both sides have already qualified for the knockout stage of the summer tournament by winning their initial two games. Thus, the current battle between the two sides is for the top spot in Group I. The other two teams of the group are Senegal and Iraq, who are facing each other in the other Group I game at the Toronto Stadium.
However, while the game is in full swing, France are missing their manager, Didier Deschamps, from the sidelines. Deschamps has been one of the most successful managers in French football history, and his absence has raised questions in the football world.

Why is Didier Deschamps missing from the France vs Norway FIFA World Cup game?
France’s technician Didier Deschamps has returned home from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the death of his mother. He left the United States ahead of Les Bleus’ last group stage game with Norway to attend his mother’s funeral.
Deschamps received the news on Tuesday and soon decided to leave the team for the time being. The French Football Federation (FFF) also issued a statement regarding the manager’s absence from France’s final group-stage fixture. The statement read:
“At this incredibly painful time, we wish the head coach great strength and assure him of everyone’s support.”
In his absence, long-time assistant coach Guy Stephan has been given temporary charge of the two-time champions for the last group-stage game against Norway. Didier Deschamps will return as the team’s head coach before Les Bleus’s round of 32 fixture.
