Why Kylian Mbappe decided to invest in France SailGP Team?

The Real Madrid star revealed why he invested in the Sailing team in an interview.

Kylian Mbappé made an unexpected business decision back in March 2025 when he bought stock in the France SailGP team.

Mbappé joined a diverse group of buyers in the worldwide racing championship, including F1 driver Sebastian Vettel, who backs the German team, along with actors Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, who co-own the Australian team, by becoming the team’s recognised charity collaborator through his private equity firm Coalition Capital.

The Real Madrid player talked candidly about why he decided to invest in the team in a recent interview with The Athletic.

Kylian Mbappé explained:

“Well, the first thing is that as a French person, I’ve always wanted to support my compatriots. I’ve always wanted to support French sport, so that was already a first factor.”

He also highlighted the social impact of SailGP:

“The second is because SailGP does a lot of things socially for children. And to have been able to involve my foundation with SailGP is really something that fills me with joy because we share a lot of values and we have a lot of projects planned together for the future.”

“I want them to have the freedom to create their own experience, their own memories, because they are the ones who will live it.”

The Motivated by Kylian Mbappé (IBKM) foundation was established in 2020 with the goal of assisting young people in discovering their life’s purpose and direction.

He is giving some of the 98 young people in his program the chance to directly experience the exhilaration of professional racing through his collaboration with the French SailGP squad.

“They’ll also learn the meaning of sacrifice, the meaning of hard work, because they’ll see how much work it takes to get a result, seeing the preparation for a major competition. Of course, I don’t know what they plan to do with their lives in the future, but they will see the mental preparation of the sailors, seeing how much self-control and management of emotions is involved.”

Mbappé acknowledged that his knowledge of sailing is currently somewhat limited, but he is keen to improve and views it as a possible new interest outside of football.

Kylian Mbappé’s investment in SailGP represents his goals both on and off the field, and it suggests a thrilling future for him both on the playing field and at sea. He is dedicated to French sport, youth growth, and personal progress.
