Yamal suffered muscle overload in LA Roja’s win against the Danes.

After Spain defeated a resolute Denmark 1-0, Lamine Yamal was seen hobbling out of the pitch, raising concerns that the teenage star had sustained a severe injury, which certainly instiled fear in the fans of Barcelona given how terrific Yamal has been for the Catalan club.

Spain confirmed that Yamal would rejoin the Catalan powerhouses after an MRI this morning and Barcelona also requested Spain to not play the 17-year-old against Serbia. According to the scan, Yamal was experiencing overload rather than serious injury

Yamal has established himself as a vital member of Barcelona and Spain since making his debut last year. Luis de la Fuente, the manager of his national team, said the winger was “touched by the magic wand of God” and was instrumental in La Roja’s victory in the European Championship.

Yamal has been playing games week in and week out and it will certainly raise concerns over the player’s fitness given at such a young age he has been playing so many matches without rest.

Yamal has already contributed a substantial amount of playing time for his club and nation despite his age. He has already earned 16 caps for Spain and became the youngest player in Barcelona history to reach 50 first-team appearances. Barcelona have been eager to restrict his minutes on international duty, which is understandable.

Yamal will be glad that he has not had a major setback when he returns to Barcelona. Whether the team would take a chance on him in their match against Sevilla on Saturday before a crucial Champions League matchup with Bayern Munich is still up in the air.

This season the forward has continued his excellent form and has appeared in 11 matches across all competitions producing five goals and five assists.

However, he will finally get much-needed rest before Barcelona take on Sevilla after the end of the international break as Catalan will hope to continue their winning momentum under new manager Hansi Flick.
