Salah & Van Dijk’s contract runs out in less than a year, so the Reds have a massive decision to make.

Liverpool are still in talks with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk regarding a potential contract extension. The Merseyside club feel they still have some good years left in them.

Both players arrived at the club during Jurgen Klopp’s reign and have done wonders for them during their prime years. They have cemented themselves as some of the greatest stars to have ever played for the Reds, leading them to the UEFA Champions League and Premier League glory.

Salah has established himself as one of the best goalscorers in the club’s history. The Egypt international is now the club’s record goalscorer in the Premier League and the third-best goalscorer in every competition.

Meanwhile, Van Dijk has also been staggering for the Reds. The Dutch defender immediately became a household name at the club when he joined them at the start of 2018. He has remained a consistent figure at the heart of the Liverpool defence over the years

Now both are in the final year of their contract. Liverpool feel the duo still have a few solid years left in them. But at some point, the Reds will have to look for their replacements as they prepare for the long run.

Should Liverpool start looking for Van Dijk and Salah’s replacement?

The Liverpool board is aware that Salah and Van Dijk don’t have much time left at the club. If not at the end of the season, they will surely be gone in a few years time. As a result, the Reds might have started looking for replacements and might have created a list of options who could take over from two of their best players.

This isn’t the first time the club had to look for a successor for one of their big players who made an indelible mark. The Reds found the best possible replacement for Sadio Mane when they signed Luiz Diaz. The Colombian has flourished since joining them and has been scoring goals for fun this season.

When the team signed Darwin Nunez, they also found a capable candidate to take over from Roberto Fermino, but many would contend Nunez has not lived up to the hype. Nunez has all the abilities to be a top strike, but he has been lacking in the goal-scoring department.

Their midfield reinforcement has also been excellent; they brought in Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister to the team as excellent alternatives to Thiago Alcantara and James Milner. But Liverpool have still been looking all over the transfer market for a reliable defensive midfield player.

One of the most spot-on replacements has been Arne Slot who has taken over from Jurgen Klopp. There were concerns about the club’s ability to find a replacement for the German, but they acted quickly to sign Slot, who has elevated the team’s performance even more.

Nevertheless, it will be complicated to replace Salah and Van Dijk because they both have been routinely putting in reliable performance ever since they signed for the club.

But it’s evident that they will soon have to start looking for their heir; otherwise, it will be a big blow for the club and their performance in the future.
