City are now exploring moves for Morgan Gibbs-White and Dani Olmo.
According to a recent report by BBC Sport, Man City have decided not to pursue a summer transfer for Florian Wirtz due to the expense of acquiring the German from Bayer Leverkusen.
City are worried that the deal is too expensive because it would be the largest deal in City’s history, costing the eight-time Premier League winners around €300 million (£252 million/$337 million) in salary and transfer fees.
With several aging stars expected to go, the Citizens will be attempting to restructure their team after suffering their first trophyless season since 2017.
Additionally, Wirtz has been rumoured to a move to Liverpool, where Jeremie Frimpong, a teammate from Leverkusen, underwent a medical on Monday. Even though he has supporters at Anfield, Wirtz is expected to he would go with Bayern.
Considered by many to be among the most gifted young players in Europe, the German international played a crucial role in Xabi Alonso’s team’s victory over Bayern in the Bundesliga last season.
Wirtz has played in 41 games across all competitions this season, tallying 16 goals and 15 assists.
Morgan Gibbs-White on Manchester City’s radar to replace Kevin De Bruyne
Morgan Gibbs-White is still on Manchester City’s radar after the team’s attempt to sign Florian Wirtz to replace Kevin De Bruyne apparently failed.
After deciding not to offer the Belgian a new deal at the Etihad, City chose to conclude their incredible run with De Bruyne this season. Guardiola, who is eager to bring youth into the team after their disappointing trophyless season, has expressed interest in signing Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Wirtz this summer.
The 22-year-old was predicted to cover the De Bruyne-sized void at City and is widely regarded as the best attacking midfield prospect in football.
Wirtz chooses Bayern as City eye move for Olmo
According to Sacha Tavolieri, Florian Wirtz has chosen to join Bayern Munich. Hugo Viana and his group are currently working on a B-plan like Dani Olmo, which Pep Guardiola usually appreciates.
According to a recent report by Sky Sports France, City may try to get Barcelona star Olmo this season instead. They considered buying the player from RB Leipzig last summer. Guardiola will be hoping Olmo can join the team for the upcoming campaign.
