Paris Saint-Germain’s appeal has been approved by Ligue 1.
To reduce fixture overcrowding in between their UEFA Champions League matches against Liverpool, Ligue 1 has confirmed that a scheduled encounter between PSG and RC Lens has been rescheduled. It has been done at the French champions’ request.
The initial matchup with Lens was scheduled for April 11, which would have fallen in between their two quarterfinal matches against Liverpool in the Champions League. The new date for the game is now May 13.
Lens claimed in a statement on Monday night that they had resisted any date change, calling PSG’s attempt to do so “unsportsmanlike.”
Luis Enrique’s men handed a major boost ahead of Liverpool clash
With a game remaining, Lens, who are now in second place in Ligue 1—one point behind PSG—will have to play every three days after a 15-day break from competitive action.
According to Sky Sports News, the Ligue 1 board decided unanimously to postpone RC Strasbourg’s match in order to allow both teams to get ready for their European matches.
The president of Lens stated before the vote that he had no problem with any postponement, whereas the president and CEO of PSG were there but chose to abstain.
It is also believed that the board stated that this choice will benefit French football, as good results in Europe can raise the nation’s coefficient ranking for the upcoming campaign.
Following the postponement, PSG released the following official statement:
“This rescheduling, which has already been implemented on several occasions, will enable the two French clubs still competing in European competitions – a rare situation for French football – to prepare in the best possible conditions for their upcoming fixtures.”
At the top of the French league standings, PSG and Lens are separated by just one point: 60 points for the Parisians and 59 points for the Giallorossi.
When are the French giants facing Liverpool?
The first leg is on 8th April.
When will PSG’s rescheduled game with Lens take place?

Where do PSG stand in the Ligue 1 table?
