Why did Thomas Tuchel leave Cole Palmer, Phil Foden & Morgan Gibbs-White out of England World Cup squad?

Tuchel has left out some key names from the Three Lions roster.
Thomas Tuchel, the head coach of England, maintains that he was unwilling to put Phil Foden, Morgan Gibbs-White and Cole Palmer out of position at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The German coach named the Three Lions team earlier on Friday. This followed the revelation of the majority of the team by many journalists on Thursday night.
Thomas Tuchel explains why he didn’t call up Foden & Palmer
Many were surprised that Cole Palmer, the star of Chelsea, and Foden, the offensive midfielder for Manchester City, were left out of the England squad. Despite not playing at their very best this season, both players are capable of creating magical moments.
Thomas Tuchel: “‘five No 10s’ and play some of them out of position. It was difficult phone calls as I respect them as players and personalities. All of them deserved a call-up from this list of 55, and to reduce [to 26] was painfully difficult.
“I felt the emotion in the phone calls. I called all players with us and wanted to show appreciation and respect. A lot deserve to be with us but we went back to the evidence we had in September, October, we had very few changes in November. We had younger players with hunger and excitement, and it was a good mix of young and old that brought the best out of them.”
Palmer struggled with form and had an injury-plagued season. But he has been an important player for England, scoring in the team’s loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final. Surprisingly, he was left out.
Foden started in the Euro 2024 final and has played for England in the last three major competitions. However, he has had a patchy season at the club level, just like Palmer.
Two well-known players who won’t be on the team in North America are Foden and Palmer. Levi Colwill, Palmer’s Chelsea colleague, and Lewis Hall, a Newcastle United defender, have also been left out.
Why didn’t Thomas Tuchel call up Foden and Palmer?
He didn’t want so many players playing in the same position.
