Why was Al Shabab vs Al Ittihad postponed? Full details explained

Saudi Pro League alters match schedule due to continental duties.
The top-tier football league in Saudi Arabia is going at its full pace. Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr are at the top of the points table, with Al Hilal in second and Al Ahli in third. These sides are also the top contenders for the league title at the moment.
There have been some high-intensity games this season and the competition has only got tougher. The reigning Saudi Pro League champions, Al Ittihad, are in sixth place and will not be able to defend the title. They are 25 points behind the league leaders.
A set of matches in the SPL have been postponed. This can be helpful for the clubs, as the players won’t be fatigued and they will get sufficient time to recover.
Why have three Saudi Pro League 2025-26 matchweek 28 fixtures been postponed?
The Saudi Pro League has confirmed some changes in the fixture. This is so because these clubs are included in the continental tournaments like the AFC Champions League Elite, AFC Champions League Two, and the AGCFF Gulf Club Champions League.
These changes will help these clubs with sufficient time to prepare and this will also maintain impartiality across the competition.
The revised schedule was finalised in coordination with the affected clubs. Multiple scenarios were discussed, with feedback considered to ensure compliance with competition regulations and the broader football calendar,” mentioned the Saudi Pro League in a recent statement.
The matchweek 28 fixtures that have been postponed are Al Shabab vs Al Ittihad, Al Khaleej vs Al Hilal and Al Ahli vs Al Fateh. The revised dates for these matches are yet to be announced after the date for the King’s Cup final is confirmed.
Two additional matchweek 28 games, Al Najmah vs NEOM SC and Al Taawoun vs Al Kholood, are now going to be played on April 11. This decision makes sure that these clubs are given the minimum required rest periods under league regulations.
Three matchweek 29 fixtures involving AFC Champions League Elite clubs have been rescheduled from April 7 to April 8 2026, which include Al Fayha vs Al Ahli, Al Hilal vs Al Kholood and Al Ittihad vs NEOM SC.
The Saudi Pro League have also brought forward two matchweek 29 games, which involve teams competing in other continental competitions. Al Qadsiah vs Al Shabab and Al Nassr vs Al Ettifaq are now going to take place on April 14 and April 15 2026, respectively.
With this, the SPL has confirmed full support for the clubs participating in the Saudi League.
