Jonathan Tah scored in the 102nd minute in tonight’s match.
Germany took on Paraguay in a tense Round of 32 clash in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on June 29.
La Albirroja took the lead through Julio Enciso’s first-half goal, but Kai Havertz equalised soon after the restart. Jonathan Tah thought he had won the match for Die Mannschaft in extra time, but his goal was controversially ruled out by VAR.
The South American side took the lead in the 42nd minute, with Enciso finding the back of the net. Havertz restored parity in the 54th minute. The two sides could not be separated at the end of regulation time, and the match went to extra time.
The breakthrough moment came in the 102nd minute. The ball was floated into the box from a corner by Joshua Kimmich. It was met by Tah at the far post, whose bullet header flew past Orlando Gill and found the back of the net.

Tah’s emphatic celebration, however, was cut short as the referee signalled that a VAR check was underway. Jalal Jayed, the Moroccan on-field referee, was eventually asked to review a possible foul on the pitch-side monitor.
Goalkeeper Gill fell to the floor after some contact with Waldemar Anton while the ball was played into the box. It looked like a soft touch, if at all, in real time, and slow-motion replays confirmed that.
However, Jalal Jayed had a different opinion. The referee said that, while the ball was in play, Anton prevented Gill from challenging for it. As a result, his challenge was deemed an infraction, and a foul was awarded to Paraguay. Tah’s goal, as a consequence, was overturned.
The German team clearly disagreed with the decision, with Anton remonstrating with the referee long after the half-time whistle of extra time.
