Davies missed Canada’s opening World Cup 2026 game due to injury.
The most important World Cup 2026 encounter for Canada will be played tonight. They are hoping to win their first-ever World Cup in front of their home fans. For now, they play Qatar.
Since June 2024, Davies, one of the top left-backs in the world, has served as the national team captain. Due to a knee ailment recently and a persistent hamstring problem, he hasn’t played for the team in over a year.
Canada handed Alphonso Davies boost

According to Canada head coach Jesse Marsch, star player Alphonso Davies will be eligible for his team’s World Cup encounter against Qatar tonight.
“He’s ready,” Marsch said.
Alphonso Davies might not start since Marsch did not explictly meantion about that. However, Canadian supporters will be more than happy. They have been waiting to hear that he is available to participate in the game.
Alphonso Davies has played out of position at the national level, even though he typically plays as a left-back for the German club Bayern Munich. He has played winger, midfielder, and fullback for Canada.
Davies can play anywhere on the pitch for his country because of his speed and athleticism. Since Marsch started coaching Canada two years ago, he has returned to playing mostly at fullback.
Richie Lareya replaced Davies as left back for Canada’s opening 2026 FIFA World Cup game. Lareya recorded five tackles, one shot on goal, and a 73% pass completion rate for the whole ninety-minute game.
The Canadian supporters would be delighted to see Davies return against Qatar, even if Lareya held down left back for the first game.
