Cristiano Ronaldo is set to make his sixth FIFA World Cup appearance.

As the 2026 FIFA World Cup draws closer, the Portugal national football team are currently underway with their preparatory friendlies. The team are currently based in Lisbon. They will play two friendlies in Portugal before travelling to the USA on June 12.

Five players are absent from the fixture. Matheus Nunes is missing due to injury. Meanwhile, Vitinha, João Neves, Nuno Mendes and Gonçalo Ramos have been handed extended leave after a gruelling season.

Roberto Martínez updates on Cristiano Ronaldo’s availability against Chile

Cristiano Ronaldo has joined the Portugal camp, with the footballing icon set to become the player to play in six different World Cups. While manager Roberto Martínez didn’t directly address Ronaldo’s availability, he highlighted that all members of the squad are set to feature in the matchup.

“The importance of friendly matches is not in the matches themselves, but in the preparation we get from them. Tomorrow against Chile, we want to win, but that is not our main objective.”

“We will use all 11 substitutions.”

Hence, expect Ronaldo on the pitch. Cristiano Ronaldo had an excellent season, winning his first Saudi Pro League title and managing 35 goals in 41 appearances. He joined the national team setup on June 1, focusing on ensuring full-match fitness.

The Portuguese captain has announced that it will be the last international tournament with the nation, drawing curtains to 23 illustrious years. Portugal will play in another preparation friendly.

They will next face Nigeria on June 11. The manager will ensure that all players are at the top of their game. He will look to utilise the qualities of every talent in the squad.

Portugal will be playing in Group K in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It should be a pretty manageable pathway for the European side. The group comprises DR Congo, Uzbekistan and Colombia.

The nation will kick off their World Cup campaign against DR Congo on June 17 at the NRG Stadium in Houston, USA.
