The Al-Nassr striker scored a brace in the last game against Poland.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal will play their last game of the UEFA Nations League group stage. They will be hoping to wrap it up with a win after demolishing Poland 5-1, a game in which Ronaldo scored a brace and provided an assist. With that win, they secured their place in the quarter-finals and will remain at the top of the table no matter the result of this game.

The Selecao have 13 points and a win will see them go further clear of second place Croatia, who have seven points. However, even a defeat will see Roberto Martinez’s side maintain a healthy three-point lead to show for.

Portugal have been brilliant in the competition. A win will see them achieve further confidence and motivation to go further as they hope to win their second trophy after winning this competition in 2017, beating the Netherlands in the final.

The 2016 Euro winners boast a quality squad. However, coach Martinez has released many players who have flown back to their respective clubs as the club action will commence this week, and they hardly see this match as a priority.

Will Ronaldo play tonight?

Cristiano Ronaldo won’t be in action tonight after scoring two terrific goals as Portugal beat Poland 5-1. Martinez has explained his decision to rest the 39-year-old for Portugal’s next match against Croatia.

Ronaldo has been in terrific form for the national team and now the striker has five goals in five matches.

Besides Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva and Pedro Neto will also not feature against the Chequered Ones, while Ronaldo will fly back to Saudi Arabia, where Al-Nassr will welcome their star player for their next matches.

Speaking to reporters after the Poland clash, the former Everton boss said, “In the first stage, we made six changes from one game to the next. It’s important for us to be first, and we already are. We need to be competitive to add to the group, it’s getting harder and harder to get into the starting eleven. There’s a World Cup finals in 18 months.

“The game against Croatia is important, we need to look at other players. We’re going to let go of Bernardo Silva, Pedro Neto, Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, who is suspended. We’re going to call up Fábio Silva and Quenda for the Under-21s.”
