A Selecao lost the first leg 1-0.

Portugal will try to overcome a one-goal disadvantage when they host Denmark in Lisbon for the second leg of their UEFA Nations League quarterfinal tonight.

Christian Eriksen missed a first-half penalty for Denmark on Thursday. Later Rasmus Hojlund scored the game’s lone goal after coming off the bench as Portugal failed to get going.

Portugal had only won once in their last four games under Roberto Martinez, and the loss was their first since France eliminated them in the quarterfinals at Euro 2024.

A Selecao das Quinas won the 2019 UEFA Nations League, defeating the Netherlands in the championship match. For a squad of their calibre, losing to Denmark in the tournament’s quarterfinals would be a major letdown.

The hosts had won three straight games against Denmark prior to Thursday’s game. They have historically dominated this matchup, winning 11 of their last 17 games across all competitions.

Will Cristiano Ronaldo play tonight?

Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo will play tonight after failing to lead his side to an important win in the first-leg. Ronaldo appeared to be a shadow of himself in the game and couldn’t cause much damage to the Danes’ defence.

Despite not scoring his 136th goal for his country in the middle of the week, Ronaldo seems to have been an influential head even though Portugal lost 1-0.

This is because he apparently gave teammate Diogo Costa crucial information right before the goalie stopped Christian Eriksen’s penalty. However, tonight he will have to be at his best if he hopes to steer his nation to the semi-final of the tournament.

In his pursuit of a second Nations League championship this summer, Ronaldo will aim to be in full force when his side takes on Denmark tonight. Considering the quality squad Portugal boast they should get their job done without breaking much sweat in the second leg.
