The centre-forward recorded a brace in the last match.

Will Cristiano Ronaldo once again lead Portugal when they visit Hungary in Group F tonight to resume their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign?

Since their first meeting in December 1926, the Selecao have won 10 and drawn four of their 14 meetings with Hungary. Their most recent meeting, in June 2021, ended in a 3-0 loss to Portugal.

With two goals each from Joao Felix and Cristiano Ronaldo and a goal from Joao Cancelo, Portugal barely needed to exert much effort in their opener against Armenia on Saturday night.

Portugal’s best World Cup performance was in 1966, when they placed third. They have never won the tournament. Since then, they have made notable appearances as quarter-finalists in 2022 and even finished fourth in 2006.

Ronaldo leading the national team to World Cup success next summer would be an interesting tale. Although Portugal will be an outsider, they have a good enough team to go far in the championship.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, scored two goals against Armenia to reach an astounding 140 international career goals. Will the 40-year-old once again find a place in the starting lineup?
