Will Donald Trump attend USA's FIFA World Cup 2026 opening match vs Paraguay?

The 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup is going to have a total of 1,248 players across 48 nations fighting for the prestigious title. The flagship tournament is going to take place in Mexico, Canada and the USA this time around.

The United States men’s national soccer team are scheduled to compete against Paraguay in their opening game of the mega competition on June 12 and it is going to be interesting to see the performance of one of the co-hosts on the grandest stage of them all.

Led by Mauricio Pochettino, the USA football team are coming in after putting up decent displays in their international friendly matches ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026. They first took down Senegal and then put up a strong performance against Germany, but the USA faced a 1-2 loss.

The question now is whether US President Donald Trump will attend the opening game of the United States men’s national soccer team.

Will Donald Trump attend USA’s opening World Cup game?

As per recent reports, US President Donald Trump will not be present at the USA vs Paraguay FIFA World Cup 2026 match, which is set to take place at the Los Angeles Stadium on June 12.

On the other hand, Paraguay’s president, Santiago Peña, announced on Wednesday that he will be travelling to California to watch the game.

Recently, USA’s head coach Mauricio Pochettino discussed the arrogance around football in the United States. He said, “I accept the arrogance of Spain, Argentina, England, France. But when I see arrogance in the United States, I think there’s a bit of confusion.”

“I’m from the United States. We’re number one. We’re the best. We fought and reached the Moon first…’ But then they don’t compete and don’t win. I think in soccer there’s a mismatch between what they think they are and what they are.”

The State Department announced that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will lead the official U.S. delegation to the match. The reason they mentioned is the diplomatic and logistical challenges tied to the tournament, including visa issues affecting some participating countries and delegations.

Donald Trump has constantly mentioned that the FIFA World Cup is an important marquee event that is taking place during his presidency. This has also been displayed as a perfect opportunity to showcase America’s strength.
