The 2026 FIFA World Cup is currently underway with the second round of its group stage fixtures, with nations rewriting the tournament’s history, adding to the global excitement. England are set for a heavyweight clash against Ghana at Boston Stadium in Massachusetts, USA.

England and Ghana are set to battle in their first-ever competitive match in history. Their only previous meeting came in 2011, with both sides clashing at Wembley Stadium, as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Jude Bellingham is fully fit and set to start against Ghana, an update heavily celebrated by the English fans. While debate surrounded the star midfielder’s involvement in the tournament in the lead-up to the campaign, it was based on tactical competition rather than an injury concern.

Jude Bellingham faced a major setback months before the tournament when he suffered a high-grade hamstring injury during a LaLiga fixture for Real Madrid against Rayo Vallecano back in February. He was substituted immediately, after which the player was subjected to extensive medical examinations.

Tests revealed a muscle tear that sidelined him for several weeks, sparking massive fears across England regarding his selection to the World Cup roster. However, following a highly disciplined rehabilitation program managed by Real Madrid’s medical team, Bellingham made a successful comeback late in the season, arriving at England’s pre-tournament camp completely healthy and was immediately integrated into full training.

However, ahead of England’s opening fixture against Croatia, doubts arose about his position after statements by new manager Thomas Tuchel. He publicly reminded his squad that no player was guaranteed a starting spot, with Bellingham facing a heavy selection battle against Aston Villa’s in-form playmaker, Morgan Rogers, for the attacking midfielder role.

Bellingham was ultimately started, with the player delivering a spectacular performance. He scored a brilliant goal in the 47th minute, with England securing a dominant 4-2 victory over Croatia, confirming his spot as the primary “Number 10” for the rest of the campaign.

England are placed in Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, dubbed a highly competitive pathway for the Three Lions, as they compete alongside Ghana, Croatia, and Panama for a top-two spot to secure an automatic qualification spot in the newly introduced Round of 32.
