Will Lamine Yamal play tonight for Spain vs Saudi Arabia in FIFA World Cup 2026?

Lamine Yamal featured as a substitute in their opening fixture.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is currently underway with the second round of its group stage fixtures, producing unforgettable moments defining the sport for years to come. Spain are set for a clash against Saudi Arabia in a must-win clash at Atlanta Stadium in Georgia, USA.
Spain and Saudi Arabia are set to battle in a competitive match for only the fourth time, with their only previous World Cup meeting being in 2006, marking 20 years since that group stage encounter, which ultimately ended in a narrow 1-0 victory for Spain, subsequently eliminating Saudi Arabia.
Luis de la Fuente updates on Lamine Yamal’s role against Saudi Arabia

Manager Luis de la Fuente has confirmed that Lamine Yamal is fully cleared and highly likely to start against Saudi Arabia, an update heavily celebrated by the Spanish fans. Doubts regarding his availability arose after the forward struggled with medical and fitness complications related to his injury.
“We’ll evaluate that. The best news is that he’s here. Lamine is in a good moment. Whether he plays 55, 58 or 63 minutes, that will depend on the game. We’ll think about his contribution to the team, and what’s beneficial for him. You’ll see tomorrow.”
Lamine Yamal was initially kept out of the starting lineup in Spain’s opening fixture after failing to adapt to the team’s rigorous physical training, as the player is currently undergoing hamstring recovery rehabilitation.
His injury concerns started after the player clutched his leg immediately after converting a penalty against Celta Vigo in a LaLiga fixture on April 22. He was substituted immediately, after which the player was subjected to medical examination.
Tests revealed that Yamal suffered a grade-two tear in his left biceps femoris muscle, effectively ruling him out for the rest of the season. To make him available for the World Cup, Barcelona and RFEF agreed on a highly disciplined, gradual reintegration program to ensure his long-term availability.

After intense rehabilitation, he was granted clearance to play after a quick recovery progress assessment by his physiotherapists. He made a successful return to the pitch as a 71st-minute substitute during Spain’s opening 0-0 draw against Cape Verde, earning praise during his short stint for his movements along the flank.
Spanish medical authorities reviewed his new physical tests, allowing the player to fully participate in the main team drills for the fixture against Saudi Arabia. However, he will not play the entire match to avoid further risks.
Spain are in Group H of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, dubbed a manageable pathway for the European giants, as they compete alongside Saudi Arabia, Uruguay and Cape Verde for a top-two spot.
