Argentina will play their last friendly tonight as they continue their preparation for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The defending champions are touted as favourites this time. Lionel Messi is once again leading the team.
The South American giants come into this one on the back of a 2-0 win over Honduras. Despite the win, Lionel Scaloni missed plenty of stars in the first warm-up game.
However, many have now returned to group training and are expected to make a cameo against Iceland tonight. Among them is talisman Lionel Messi, who didn’t feature in the previous warm-up game.
Even though Messi was on the bench, Scaloni decided not to use the forward as a precaution. But will he play tonight?

Yes, Lionel Messi is available to play tonight. This is although Scaloni didn’t answer whether he will be in the starting lineup or come off the bench.
Head coach Lionel Scaloni, “Messi will play, I just don’t know how many minutes. I still need to talk to him in training, and we will see how many minutes he plays to avoid any type of risks. We will decide, but in principle, he will play. We’re going to distribute the minutes of the players who will play to try to avoid any mishaps.”
It appears that Messi’s minutes will be managed. They want the former Paris Saint-Germain star to avoid any relapse in the game.
At the age of 38, he will be playing a fundamental part in the squad as they look to defend the World Cup. However, being fully fit will be Messi’s top priority. He once again looks to make a memorable tournament similar to the 2022 World Cup.
