Will Marcus Rashford play for England vs Ghana in FIFA World Cup?

Marcus Rashford has earned 73 caps for England, scoring 19 goals.

Thomas Tuchel’s England entered the 2026 FIFA World Cup as one of the hot favourites, and they lived up to the expectations in the opening match. Playing a replay of the 2018 FIFA World Cup semi-final against Croatia, the Three Lions secured a dominant 4-2 victory.

Harry Kane was the star of England’s victory over Croatia, while Jude Bellingham and Elliot Anderson also gave decent performances. The English line-up looks strong, especially the attack and midfield.

One player, apart from Harry Kane, who stood out in the Three Lions’ opening game of the tournament was Marcus Rashford. The Manchester United attacker was subbed in by Thomas Tuchel in the 72nd minute, and he had an immediate impact.

With only 12 touches in 18 minutes, Rashford managed to net a goal and get his name on the scoresheet. The 28-year-old also cemented the victory for the 1966 champions, courtesy of an assist from Arsenal star Bukayo Saka.

In the second match of the group stage, the Three Lions will be facing Ghana, who recorded a narrow 1-0 victory over Panama in their opening game.

Will Marcus Rashford start against Ghana in the FIFA World Cup?

Marcus Rashford, who played for Barcelona last season on loan, has recently recovered from a hamstring niggle. He got the green light from the medical department and was cleared to return to group training. However, as a precaution, Thomas Tuchel decided to use the Englishman as a substitute against Croatia.

However, he’s still unlikely to start for England until Tuchel decides that the 28-year-old is not under any injury scare. If Rashford gets the opportunity to start, he will play on the left wing, where he would have to compete with Anthony Gordon for that spot.

The German technician’s concern is valid, as the 28-year-old had tight hamstrings earlier in the week but still participated in England’s latest training sessions. Nevertheless, it’s not likely that Marcus Rashford features as a substitute for the Three Lions against Ghana.
