The French centre-back is one of the best defenders in the world.
Arsenal star centre-back William Saliba has acknowledged Real Madrid’s interest and labelled it as “tempting,” but the player is focused on inspiring the Gunners to trophies.
Under Mikel Arteta, William Saliba has become a vital member of Arsenal’s team and one of the best defenders in the world. The Premier League team rewarded him with a new deal last month that runs through 2030.
Madrid were reportedly really keen to sign the defender before he committed his long-term future to Arsenal with a new contract.
The French defender would have cost more than Dean Huijsen, according to a September 19th AS report, which is why Los Blancos didn’t sign him last summer. Additionally, they said Real Madrid would make an effort to persuade him to sign with them in 2026 on a free transfer.
William Saliba comments on interest from Los Blancos
Acknowledging the interest from Los Blancos, Saliba told Telefoot:
“Of course, it’s really tempting when a club like that tries to lure you, but for me, [my desire] was to stay at Arsenal. First, win trophies, before thinking about anything else,” he said.
This season, the Frenchman has a chance to make a significant impact with the Gunners and finally lift the Premier League trophy as six points now separate Arsenal from second-place Manchester City in the league standings.
Saliba attended AS Bondy’s academy alongside Kylian Mbappé, a star for Real Madrid. But as of now, Saliba is focused on leading the Gunners to trophies this season and won’t entertain any offer.

Reports also suggest that Madrid have moved their focus to signing Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté, who is out on contract next summer and available on a free transfer.
