The Los Blancos have struck a reported three-year contract with the former Spanish midfielder.
Xabi Alonso has now agreed to join Real Madrid as their next head coach shortly after the team was eliminated from the Champions League by Arsenal, according to a report from MARCA.
He and the Spanish club have agreed on a three-year contract. He is familiar with Real Madrid’s culture and expectations because he was formerly a midfielder for the team.
While another report from Florian Plettenberg suggests that Alonso is on the verge of leaving Bayer 04 Leverkusen, with an official announcement expected soon.
Carlo Ancelotti to become Brazil national team manager ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026
Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti and the Madrid board decided it was time to get ready for a transition, one that would be carried out with decency and respect for one another, even though nothing was immediately made public.
Before making any announcements, Ancelotti and the team chose to concentrate all of their efforts on winning the LaLiga title, although a farewell was organised behind closed doors.
It is now almost certain that the Italian manager, who has long been connected to the Brazilian national team, will depart in June to lead Brazil until the 2026 World Cup.
Although Alonso’s hiring is officially finalised, there is still uncertainty around the composition of his coaching team. Although Antonio Pintus is formally a club employee and not a member of Ancelotti’s personal staff, there are concerns regarding his future.
The squad’s lacklustre physical performances this season has raised concerns, despite the arrival of a new fitness coach, and the club could expect a revamp in the coaching staff during the summer.
The tight schedule is currently the main worry. The FIFA Club World Cup final is also scheduled to take place before the start of the upcoming season.
There won’t be much time to reorganise and prepare for the upcoming campaign. Although there will undoubtedly be pressure to start the upcoming season, Real Madrid are looking for a smooth transition into a new era with Alonso filling in and important decisions already made.
