Xavi Simons prefers Chelsea move over Bayern Munich & Manchester City: Report

RB Leipzig are open to selling the player for a big sum.

Chelsea are currently the frontrunners to bring Xavi Simons to Stamford Bridge as the Dutch international is prioritising a move to the Blues instead of Manchester City and Bayern Munich, according to ESPN.

Simons is looking to leave RB Leipzig this summer, and Chelsea are already seen as the ideal destination for the forward. However, the German club want €80 million ($93.6m) for the player.

After signing him permanently for €50m from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, the Bundesliga club will only sell him if his price tag is met.

The 22-year-old produced 10 goals and seven assists last season in 25 games, but his contract with Leipzig is only valid until June 2027, and the club are not looking to lose him on a free transfer.

The report further adds that Chelsea wants to sign the winger, but are only ready to pay €60m, while Bayern have identified him as an ideal replacement for Kingsley Coman, who has joined Saudi club Al-Nassr. Alongside the fact that Jamal Musiala is out with a long-term injury.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are also circling the player’s situation and could plot a move if Savinho leaves the club to join Tottenham.

However, Simons had made up his mind and prefers a move to West London, despite interest from other European giants.

If the Blues manage to sign the player, he will be their ninth signing of the summer window, having spent over €250m to bring in the likes of João Pedro, Jamie Gittens and Jorrel Hato.

Moreover, Leipzig’s asking price for Simons could prove to be too much for Chelsea, as they are adamant about paying a big fee. But their previous record of splurging money on talented players could propel them to sign Simons before any other club tries to swoop in.

However, given the former PSG star favours a move to Blues, Chelsea are in pole position to lead negotiations for the player.
