Xabi Alonso confirms Chelsea striker Joao Pedro ruled out for several weeks
The striker missed the game against Tottenham.
Due to a thigh injury, Chelsea’s top scorer Joao Pedro will miss the Carabao Cup (EFL Cup) match against Liverpool tonight as well as the games to follow.
Joao Pedro of Chelsea will be out for several weeks. Xabi Alonso declined to provide a precise timeline for the thigh injury. He did clarify that the striker won’t be able to play in the upcoming games.
He will not be able to play in today’s Carabao Cup fourth-round match at Anfield. With five goals and three assists in six Premier League starts this season, Pedro has been Chelsea’s most reliable attacker. In terms of form, he has quietly emerged as the one player Chelsea truly cannot replace.
Due to a knee injury that also required him to miss Brazil duties, he had already missed one game this season: the away trip to Brentford in September.

In every league game Chelsea have been without him, they have lost. Alonso used Morgan Rogers as an emergency central striker against Spurs, but it didn’t work; Rogers played a supporting role the entire time, and Chelsea were unable to find the back of the net.
“João has suffered a thigh injury, he won’t be available for few weeks”, Xabi Alonso says.
Compared to a week ago, Chelsea’s offence now appears to be weaker. The way Alonso resolves the issue over the course of the next two games, which begin tonight at Anfield, will reveal a lot about how much depth he has truly developed.
Losing both Pedro and Palmer in the same week deprives Chelsea of their two most dynamic, goal-scoring performers in the final third, just as they prepare for back-to-back games against Liverpool in the cup and Manchester United at home the following Saturday.
