The 2022 campaign for Ferrari's F1 team was an underwhelming one as they lost the championship to Red Bull. Many considered Charles Leclerc of Ferrari the favourite to win the championship at the start of the season. However, some huge blunders played a huge part in the company losing the Championship.
The underwhelming strategic performance meant some changes were to come. The change came as Ravin Jain was appointed as the head strategist of Ferrari. Inaki Rueda who was the head strategist was removed from his position and moved to a factory-oriented role in Maranello. Moreover, Ferrari brought in Fred Vasseur as team principal to replace Mattia Binotto after he was axed at the end of the season.
So, who is the new 26-year-old Indian-origin Ferrari F1 teams head strategist Ravin Jain:
Who is the new Indian-origin head strategist of Ferrari?
Ravin Jain is an Indian-origin Oxford graduate who moved to the UK. He completed his Physics graduation with first class and then did Post graduation in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics. Motorsports and strategy interested Jain and wanted to use data science and mathematical modelling in sports.
Jain joined Williams and Caterham as an intern during the summer internship. After completing his post graduation he joined Scuderia Ferrari in 2016. Jain joined Ferrari as a mathematical modelling engineer which is the most successful F1 team in history with over 240 wins. He was also part of the Maranello Academy of Engineers and learned about strategy and mathematical models.
The new role for Jain in Ferrari is a very demanding one and he needs to give his best. The strategy which the team follows will be a hot topic since the mistakes of the last campaign.
Vasseur in January told Motorsports, "I'm trying to understand exactly what's happened on every single mistake and what's happened last year. And to try to know if it's a matter of decision if it's a matter of organization or communication?"
Jain will start in his new role in the season opener Bahrain Grand-Prix. The focus will be on Jain this campaign and how he brings a chance to the pit wall.
