F1: Bahrain GP winners over the years
From Charles Leclerc to Michael Schumacher, Ferrari has dominated the Sakhir Grand Prix Circuit
Since 2004, barring 2011, Bahrain Grand Prix has been the part of Formula 1 calendar every year. The first ever Bahrain Grand Prix was run in 2004 which was won by the eventual champion Michael Schumacher. Lewis Hamilton has won the race the most number of times (5).
The event has been affected by local protests in a few instances. In 2011, the Grand Prix was cancelled due to the anti-government protests going on in the Gulf Kingdom. The next year, Human Rights activists called for a cancellation due to reports of Human Rights abuses committed by the Bahraini authorities. Though the teams wanted the race to be postponed, it went ahead as scheduled. After securing the pole, Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull got their first-ever victory on the land. India's first F1 driver Narain Kartikeyan started last that day.
