Lewis Hamilton has won at Silverstone a record eight times.

The British Grand Prix is one of the most sought-after races in the calendar, particularly due to the track-side events that have followed in recent years. And following a thrilling race in Austria that was overshadowed by track limit controversies, Formula 1 is now once again setting its sights on the legendary Silverstone circuit.

Looking back at last year's race, the battle between Charles Leclerc, Sergio Perez, and Lewis Hamilton was a true spectacle for the fans as each driver fought fiercely to gain the upper hand. However, the race didn't start without its fair share of drama. At the first corner, George Russell and Zhou Guanyu were involved in a collision, resulting in Zhou's car flipping and crashing into the barriers at high speed. Thankfully, Zhou walked away unharmed, highlighting the effectiveness of the safety measures in Formula 1.

Unlike the Austrian GP, which featured a sprint race, the British GP 2023 will follow the traditional format, beginning with two practice sessions on Friday, thus allowing teams to fine-tune their setups, gather valuable circuit data, and make crucial adjustments. On Saturday, the final practice session will be followed by qualifying to determine the starting grid for the 52-lap British GP 2023 on Sunday.

British GP 2023 Schedule:

July 7 (Friday)

  • Free Practice 1: 17:00-18:00 IST (12:30-13:30 BST)
  • Free Practice 2: 20:30-21:30 IST (16:00-17:00 BST)

July 8 (Saturday)

  • Free Practice 3: 16:00-17:00 IST (11:30-12:30 BST)
  • Qualifying: 19:30-20:30 IST (15:00-16:00 BST)

July 9 (Sunday)

  • Race: 19:30-21:30 IST (15:00-17:00 BST)

New safety testing

Following the fatal incident involving FRECA driver Delano van t'Hoff, the FIA is exploring new rear wheel covers that will prevent spray from being emitted by the cars. To conduct this test, a Mercedes car will be equipped with a prototype rear wheel cover, while a regular McLaren will trail behind to collect accurate data.
