The difference between the top and bottom of the list will shock you.

Formula 1’s prestige as the pinnacle of motorsports has persuaded many car manufacturers to invest significant amounts of time and resources in becoming the top player in the sport. And as F1 endeavours to become a global phenomenon, let’s take a closer look at the most valuable teams in Formula 1.

10. Williams – $725 million

Founded in 1977 by Sir Frank Williams, Williams is one of the most celebrated teams in the sport, thanks in part to its dominant run in the 1980s and 90s, during which the team won 9 constructors’ and 7 drivers’ championships. However, despite their dominant performances, the team has struggled to stay afloat in the turbo hybrid era due to a lack of resources for developing a competitive car. The team’s estimated revenue for 2023 is $160 million.

9. Haas – $780 million

Currently, the youngest and only American team in Formula 1, Haas had a decent start in F1, with 2018 being their best year, where they finished 5th in the constructors’ championship. Although their recent performance is nothing to boast about, Haas’s American heritage has attracted many sponsors, including MoneyGram and Palm Angels. The team’s estimated revenue for 2023 is $180 million.

8. Alfa Romeo – $900 million

Essentially, the Sauber team, Alfa Romeo’s return to F1 in 2018, was met with high expectations due to the team’s illustrious history in the sport. However, plagued by developmental issues, Alfa Romeo hasn’t been the front-runner fans hoped it would be. In 2021, Sauber was ready to sell a majority stake in Alfa Romeo to Andretti, but when this deal fell through, Audi purchased a minority stake in the team to become the title sponsor. The team is estimated to earn $210 million in 2023.

7. Alpha Tauri – $1.125 billion

Sister team to Red Bull and formerly known as Toro Rosso, AlphaTauri, has struggled in recent years due to new regulations preventing teams from sharing essential designs and components. Consequently, the team has consistently finished at the bottom of the tables, prompting Red Bull to rebrand the team in 2024 with a new name and sponsors. Moreover, with Daniel Ricciardo joining mid-season to replace the underperforming Nyck Devries, it’s evident that Red Bull wants its junior team to start competing once again. The team is estimated to earn $260 million in 2023.

6. Aston Martin – $1.375 billion

Formerly known as Racing Point, Aston Martin’s return to glory has been nothing short of extraordinary as the team, which finished 7th in 2022, is currently fighting with Mercedes for the second spot in the 2023 F1 season. This rise in the constructor’s championship, combined with valuable sponsorships, has propelled the team’s valuation, and it is estimated to earn $292 million in 2023.

5. Alpine – $1.4 billion

Formerly known as Renault, the Alpine Formula 1 team boasts an illustrious career spanning decades, with 12 constructors’ championships under its belt. Despite a mixed bag of recent performances, major Hollywood actors, including Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenny, and Michael B. Jordan, investing in the team has significantly increased its valuation. Additionally, Alpine is expected to earn $325 million in 2023.

4. McLaren – $2.2 billion

Despite its car manufacturing department experiencing financial struggles, the McLaren Formula 1 team has performed exceptionally well as a business, thanks in part to CEO Zak Brown’s clever techniques in securing new sponsors. Additionally, with the MCL60 finally performing on par with Mercedes and Ferrari in the recent British GP, fans may witness the return of McLaren’s dominance on the track. Moreover, the team is estimated to earn $490 million in 2023.

3. Red Bull – $2.6 billion

Red Bull’s recent domination has been nothing short of extraordinary, with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez winning all the races of the 2023 season so far. This dominance has also boosted the team’s valuation, attracting new sponsors eager to be associated with the top dog of the sport. Additionally, Red Bull is estimated to earn $510 million in 2023.

2. Mercedes – $3.8 billion

Mercedes’ return to Formula 1 in 2010 was highly speculative, considering the team had been away from the sport for decades. However, the turbo hybrid era witnessed a magical turnaround, with the team winning 8 consecutive world championships from 2014 to 2021 and their drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg also clinching drivers’ championships during those years. As a result, the team’s valuation soared, and it is expected to earn $700 million in 2023.

1. Ferrari – $3.9 billion

Although not the most dominant player in the sport today, Ferrari’s legacy of 16 constructors’ championships endures to this day and makes them the most valuable team on the circuit. However, with a driver like Charles Leclerc, if Ferrari manages to create a car that is comparable to Red Bull, they could very well see themselves eyeing the 17th title.
