All new PS6 & handheld 'Canis' leaks: What's new for next-gen?

The gaming world and gamers are pretty excited, as recently the new leaks about the upcoming Sony PS6 and PS6 handheld ‘Canis’ have resurfaced online.

These specs and information were leaked by YouTube’s Moore’s Law Is Dead on August 1, 2025. These leaks are based on previous accurate PS5 Pro insights from third-party developers and stem from Moore’s Law Is Dead’s deep dive into hardware.

Though credible, the release date of mid-2027 (fall 2027 or early 2028) is still years away, so details may change. Let’s find out more details in this article.

The new console codename is “Orion,” which uses a chiplet design, with AMD “Navi 5” desktop tech.

This is also going to target backward compatibility with PS5 and PS4. (no PS3 mention) The major focus of prioritizing cost over raw power. You can expect:

• 160W TBP
• 8 Zen 6 (or later) cores
• 40-48 RDNA 5 Compute Units at 3GHz+
• 160-192-bit bus with GDDR7 at 32GT/s+
• ~3x PS5 rasterization, higher ray tracing uplift
• 3nm manufacturing

PS6 Canis Handheld Specs

The all-new handheld codename is “Canis” also 3nm, aims to outpace the Xbox Ally X, but isn’t a powerhouse. You can expect:

• 15W TBP
• 4 Zen 6c cores
• 12-20 RDNA 5 Compute Units at 1.6-2GHz
• 128-bit bus with LPDDR5X-7500+
• ~0.5x PS5 rasterization, better ray tracing
• MicroSD slot, M.2 SSD, haptic vibration, dual mics, touchscreen, and USB-C video out
• PS5/PS4 backward compatibility
