Steps to recruit Yaya

You will first encounter Yaya during the Fatherless Monk quest, tied to Wada Koretake’s arc in The Onryo storyline. After you take down the boss in the Heads Will Roll mission, your dialogue choices after that can become crucial to recruiting her. Here’s what to pick (bolded for clarity):

Heads Will Roll (Wada Koretake Assassination):

• Killing them isn’t justice – Yaya respects mercy.
• Justice must be served – Too harsh for her taste.

Stray Dog Choice #1:

• We forgive him – Keeps her goodwill flowing.
• We punish him – Risks pushing her away.

Stray Dog Choice #2:

• You need to forgive each other – Seals her trust.
• You need to take responsibility – Less appealing to her pacifist vibe.

Yaya believes in peace, so taking the peace and less conflict option is the way to win her heart in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The Stray Dog Quest

After this, you can track the Stray Dog mission via the League Objectives board. Now after this, head to Osaka in Izumi Settsu, south of Osaka Temple.

There you have to help Yaya fend off the enemies. Then comes another decision about a foe’s fate: remain with “We forgive him” to make her pleased. Follow her to Takatsuki Church to rescue her prized Kanzashi. When Tetsuo flees, Yaya pursues him—be forgiving, and you’ll have the option of inviting her to your crew.

If you select the favorable choices, then Yaya will join your hideout in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. If you make a mistake, she will reject you and you won’t get a second chance to recruit her. The only option will be to load the previous save data and try again in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
