Ubisoft has nailed it!

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows is finally going to release tomorrow and the reviews for this game have started to pour out one by one. We were lucky to get the review copy of the game early and I can tell you that all the delays for this game were worth it.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has always been one of my favorites and Shadows comes pretty close to replicating the same quality in Feudal Japan. Let’s check out more details in this article.

One of the best-looking games in the franchise

Fans had many concerns after Assassin’s Creed Shadows was delayed twice. Some even considered that Ubisoft would not release the game.

But here we are, on March 20, 2025, the game will finally go live and fans will be able to experience the feudal Japan story this time. For me, this game is one of the most immersive and best-looking games in the franchise.

Stealth in the game is very good and Naoe’s stealth gameplay is the best. This will truly give you the vibes of old Assassin’s Creed games. There are more instruments at your disposal, and the world seems more vibrant. I really enjoyed the level design in the enemy bases, which provided plenty of opportunity for parkour.

When it comes to storytelling, Assassin’s Creed Shadows does a good job but not that great. If fans compare this to Ghost of Tsushima, then this is quite far behind in that race.

Despite that, Ubisoft has placed quite an importance this time on storytelling. The story heavily relies on flashbacks and sometimes it can feel all over the place at the very beginning of the game.

Now many fans want to know about the combat in this game. Combat has indeed changed a lot and you will enjoy it a lot. However, it still feels quite lackluster. New enhancements such as the Shinobi Tools for Naoe allow you to parry, deflect, and dodge attacks. Yasuke may also utilize a bow and a Teppo rifle as ranged weapons.

The parkour this time is quite crazy and for me, the world-building and graphics are the best part of this game. However, the open world is a little smaller if we compare it to Valhalla’s.

While the previous games focused on scale, Shadows is more about detail and travel. The setting feels like a character in and of itself. With seasons that change constantly, there is a greater emphasis on nature and the weather.

I loved the weather system. The sound design for wind and weather effects is just excellent. Hearing a storm roll in while riding down a riverbed on a horse, “Wonderful.”

If we talk about the Dual Protagonists, then I was immersed and had fun with Naoe compared to Yasuke. You can play as Naoe for 90% of the game (or more if you like). There are a few Yasuke-only quests, but aside from that, do whatever you want. Till the time you get invested in Yasuke’s story, the game ends, that’s what I felt like.

Final thoughts

Overall, Ubisoft has done a pretty amazing job with Assassin’s Creed Shadows and this is by far one of the best most recent Assassin’s Creed games. Just like I said, this is pretty much closer to the Odyssey and the feudal Japan story really brings a solid impact.

With stealth and parkour, you will feel the old Assassin’s Creed vibes and the Dual Protagonists really bring out the new element of the game pretty well. The game is pretty optimized and performance is quite great for PS5 and PS5 Pro.

Is it worth buying considering the $69.99 price tag just for the standard version? Absolutely, Ubisoft has done a great job to make the game worth it for the price tag. And if you are an Assassin’s Creed lover, then you won’t be disappointed.

Rating: 8/10
