Journey to feudal Japan
When Assassin’s Creed Shadows releases on March 20, 2025, it will re-invent the genre by combining classic stealth and daring advancements. This time, the game is set in feudal Japan and will introduce dual protagonists: Shinobi Naoe and Samurai Yasuke.
Apart from this, there are too many new features and elements that have been introduced this time to make the game more enjoyable. Let’s check out more details in this article.
5. Light and shadow mechanics
With a dynamic light and shadow system, Naoe can vanish into shadows and become invisible to foes, while snuffing out lanterns or dodging light sources opens up new tactical paths. A visibility meter—think Splinter Cell vibes—keeps you on your toes, making every move a dance with darkness.
4. Prone crawling
For the first time in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, you can go prone. Crawling through grass or squeezing into narrow spots provides Naoe a low-profile advantage, ideal for avoiding patrols or ambushing enemies.
Combine this with her ability to roll while prone, and you have a stealth toolbox that feels new while remaining loyal to the series’ heritage. Fans on X describe it as a “stealth bro’s dream come true in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.”

3. Physics-Based grappling hook
Naoe’s physics-based grappling hook is a game-changer for traversal and stealth. Unlike Syndicate’s zipline-style tool, this one swings with realistic momentum, allowing you to scale pagodas, swing across gaps, or drop into assassinations with flair.
This is exclusive to Naoe in Assassin’s Creed Shadows as proving her to be an agile Shinobi while Yasuke opts for brute force.
2. Dynamic weather and seasons
Assassin’s Creed Shadows features a four-season system and changeable weather, which adds to the action. Spring’s lush vegetation conceals you, whereas winter’s ice blocks paths and betrays you with crunching snow.
Rain conceals your footsteps, but wind may transport your scent to guards. This ever-changing universe, combined with breakable things and weapon-fueled environmental mayhem.
1. Customizable hideout
This time, your hideout isn’t just a simple pitstop. You can now fully customize your base in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Set it up with layouts, decorations, and gear-crafting stations, then train your crew and bond with comrades. From stroking baby deer to conspiring with spies, this acre of land changes with your adventure.
Beyond the top five, Shadows delivers additional punches. New stealth techniques, such as quiet arrows, whistling lures, and underwater hiding, offer Naoe ninja status.
Yasuke’s horrific executions turn heads (literally) with cinematic flair, despite being loud enough to attract notice. Plus, a spy network allows you to enlist allies to track down targets, similar to Brotherhood but with a Japanese twist.
