Everything started with senior combat designer Matthew Nickerson doing an interview. Matthew hyped the “console-only crossplay” feature.

This suggested that PlayStation and Xbox players will be able to team up even with crossplay disabled. However, recently, EA cleared the information according to a recent Dexerto report

.It turns out that Nickerson nailed the “on” part but fumbled the “off” switch. What a bummer, right? The fantasy of exclusive console matchmaking sans PC interlopers is on hold… for the time being.

How does crossplay actually work in Battlefield 6?

This is how EA has explained their crossplay feature: When crossplay is enabled, matchmaking will prioritize fellow console players, which means PS5 players with PS5 and Xbox players with Xbox.

If the queues are slow and longer, then PC players will be filling the spots. But when the crossplay is disabled, PS5 will only stay with PS5 and the same goes for Xbox.

There will be no more cross-console buddy-ups without the PC wildcard. It’s an excellent arrangement for solo queuers, avoiding aimbot accusations, but team players may miss the cohesive squad feel.
