A Sci-fi action game has been cancelled

Blade Runner: Time to Live, an unreleased action-adventure game in development at Supermassive Games, has been cancelled.

This project was exclusively revealed by Insider Gaming, which began the pre-production in September 2024. But now, it has been scrapped.

What was Blade Runner: Time to Live?

This game was expected to, “character-focused, cinematic, action-adventure” which was supposed to be set in the Blade Runner universe.

Players would take control of So-Lange, a vintage Nexus-6 replicant that defied her restricted lifespan in 2065 New Zurich.

The 10- to 12-hour single-player tale follows So-Lange’s mission to retire Rev, a deadly replicant leader, only to be betrayed and left for dead in a harsh environment.

The story claimed to combine Blade Runner’s philosophical concepts with fast gameplay, moving from the neon-lit undercity to spooky, desolate landscapes.

The game was supposed to feature four core features: stealth, combat, exploration/investigation, and dramatic character interactions with “authentic, punchy, and poignant” dialogue.

Players would have been able to upgrade their skills, using memories to unveil the story and using the in-game scientific techs to investigate.

Development details and cancellation

The game development was handled by Supermassive Games, which is well known for Until Dawn and The Quarry.

The game’s pre-production began in September 2025 and was expected to launch in September 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and next-gen “Gen 10” consoles.

According to Insider Gaming, the budget was set around $45 million with $9 million allocated for performance capture and acting talent, though costs for music, image rights, QA, localization, and DLC were excluded.

Despite early expectations, the project was scrapped in late 2024. Insider Gaming sources point to Alcon Entertainment as the cause, while specifics are kept confidential to protect sources.

Supermassive Games said they were “unable to comment,” while Alcon Entertainment did not answer.
