A very uncertain future!

After rumors and reports about Xbox Studios, which might be closing, it appears that Bungie could also be preparing for large layoffs this summer.

According to new reports, the developers behind Destiny and Marathon might be preparing for significant workforce reductions. Do keep in mind that neither Sony nor Bungie has officially confirmed anything yet.

Bungie could face massive layoffs

This piece of information was reported by the French journalist Sylvain on X, who recently stated that the company should expect “massive layoffs” during the Summer.

It is expected that approximately 50% of the studio’s workforce could be impacted by this layoff.

If these reports are accurate, then almost 400 employees can lose their jobs in this layoff. The company’s estimated staff is around 800.

Big concerns for Marathon & Destiny

Destiny 2’s last major expansion support update has been released, ending years of expansion support. Although there is a lot of interest and support from the community, there has been no official announcement regarding a Destiny 3 project.

Meanwhile, Bungie’s most recent multiplayer shooter, Marathon, has had all but dwindled enthusiasm and failed to achieve the uptake and commercial success that many had hoped for. Critics and some gamers rated the game very positively, but sources suggest that it didn’t meet the in-house standards.

With one of the live-service games reaching its end with the content updates, while another is already failing to impress or attract any players or fans, the future of Bungie might not be looking very good.
