A Premium Game!
Bungie has just revealed their upcoming sci-fi PVP extraction shooter, Marathon, which is scheduled to release on September 23, 2025.
They have revealed gameplay footage, teasers, information about the closed alpha test and many other things as well.
Despite all of this, the game is getting mixed reactions from the fans. Some are pretty excited, while some have many complaints. Letâs check out more details in this article.
Know more about Marathon
From the creators of Halo and Destiny, Bungieâs Marathon is going to be a first-person shooter built around an extraction model.
An easy way to understand is when you enter the map, you have to fully kit up, loot up and fight to survive against players and AI enemies.
Now, here comes the exciting part: if you die, you will lose everything that you have acquired in the game.
This is what an extraction shooter means, but Marathon will also be a little âarcade-styleâ aesthetic and operating model.
This game will be more fast-paced and with powerful abilities mechanic which will make it different from other extraction shooter games.

Fans reaction
Many fans were excited about a sci-fi based extraction shooter reveal, however, many have already started to complain about the game as well.
The woke agenda has once again started due to the character model and the developers behind the game as well.
This is nothing new and we have seen this agenda in pretty much every game release.
Apart from this, some fans are even talking about the price range and how it should be free. User SynthPotato on X posted:
âMarathon just looks⌠fine? I canât really imagine playing this more than a few hours without getting bored, but that aside, the fact itâs NOT free to play is insanity. Thereâs no reason youâd play this over free games like Apex/Warzone/Fortnite/D2.â
Even Bungie has confirmed that this game will be premium. So, paying above $40 along with in-game micro-transactions and battle passes doesnât seem like a good idea for many fans.
I have seen many fansâ comments on Reddit as well, talking about how this concept might get boring in the long term.
They are even comparing it to Concord and discussing that the game might flop on the launch day itself.
