Massive achievement for the AA game
A standout JRPG style inspired turn-based game, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 has sold 1 million copies in just three days, excluding the Xbox Game Pass players.
What a massive success for Sandfall Interactive for their first debut game. This game was developed by only 30 people and was priced at $50.
Record-Breaking launch for Sandfall Interactive
Fans can pretty much say that April 2025 has been a golden month for RPG games. First, the Oblivion Remaster and now Clair Obscur Expedition 33.
Despite the heavy competition from Oblivion, Clair Obscur was still able to sell 500,000 copies in just a single day.
This achievement is notably noteworthy for an AA game and Sandfall Interactive’s first project, indicating a promising future for the studio.
The game is already sitting with a 92 Metacritic rating with a 97 user score. This made Clair Obscur Expedition 33 one of the highest-rated games of all time.
Now, in just three days, it has already sold 3 million copies, not including Game Pass users.
Given its availability on Microsoft’s subscription service, the game’s audience is likely to be far larger, with hundreds of thousands more experiencing its Belle Époque-inspired universe on Xbox and PC.
Players and fans have highly praised the game art, environment, visuals, soundtrack, story and turn based combat system.
Many fans were even commenting that this is how Final Fantasy looks if it were good and still favors the turn-based combat system.
On Steam, the game reached a launch-day peak of 51,000 concurrent players, which increased to 98,000 by the weekend, indicating its growing popularity.
The small team of developers with big dreams, determination and love for gaming has proven every big gaming company wrong.
You don’t need an online multiplayer service or big AAA titles that cost $70-80 to be good. This game is proving that even small indie games with a small budget and a $50 price range can still perform better.
Especially, Ubisoft should take some notes as developers in Sandfall Interactive are all past Ubisoft employees.
